Researchers from IISc have developed a method and wearable device for tracking eye movement of a subject using Fiber Bragg Grating sensor.
BACKGROUND
Investigation of eye movement is an important factor to evaluate diagnosis of various ophthalmological and neurological disorders. Some of the existing eye movement detection techniques include electro-oculography, limbal tracking, video-oculography and magnetic search coil.
These techniques perform poorly when the subject looks down and the aperture becomes smaller. Also, the camera-based techniques require wide opening of eyes, otherwise there can be aperture issues.
TECHNOLOGY
It is a novel, non-invasive and wearable device to monitor the eye movement using Fiber Bragg
Grating sensor. This method leads to real time acquisition of muscular displacement of the eye
ball while making an eye movement.
COMMERCIALIZATION
This invention has been filed for a patent grant in India.
