An apparatus for large scale real time removal of dye from waste water has been designed by researchers from IISc. The process of dye removal is rapid, cost-effective and scalable.
BACKGROUND
Industrial waste containing dyes as effluents have become a major environmental hazard. The existing technologies for treatment of these effluents include photocatalytic degradation, cation exchange membranes, sonochemical degradation, electrochemical degradation etc. These methods are either time consuming or suffer scalability issues. There is requirement for highly efficient real time dye removal process which is scalable.
TECHNOLOGY
The invention provides an apparatus based on superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for removal of dye from waste water.
Key features:
- Real-time dye removal method.
- Rapid and cost-effective
- Scalable process
- The apparatus can also be used in agriculture/medicine
COMMERCIALIZATION
IISc has filed an application for grant of patent in India.
