The invention proposes a novel low cost solar plant monitoring system for detecting and identifying faults in large solar photovoltaic (PV) installations.
Area of technology: Electrical sciences
Technology Readiness Level (TRL): 2
BACKGROUND
- Large PV installations are monitored to ensure uninterrupted operations at their
optimum capacity. - Existing I-V tracers require the load to be disconnected and the plant to be kept offline.
- There is a need for a technique to identify fault on-line in large solar PV installations.
TECHNOLOGY
The invention discloses a low cost fault diagnosis system in large solar PV installations.
Key features:
- Low cost
- Online I-V tracer
- Junction box level monitoring
- No need to physically disconnect the loads
- Shape of I-V trace reveals the fault
- Analytics engine to analyse I-V trace and provide fault diagnosis
- Provides cleaning schedule and maintenance alerts
- It can be used for large solar PV plants.
COMMERCIALIZATION
Indian Institute of Science has filed a provisional specification for patent grant in India and looking for potential licensees to commercialize this invention.
